Romans 7:21-25

Throughout Romans 7, Paul talks about the duality of his struggles. On one hand, Paul knows that God’s standards are good and even wants to follow them (the mind). But on the other hand, Paul has instincts and habits that often lead to Paul doing sin (the flesh). And Paul is torn between the duality. We also have instincts and habits of doing not-so-good stuff that can get us torn -- especially when we want to do good.

And Paul feels so torn that he feels very frustrated about himself! Paul describes himself as "wretched" (7:24) to convey the brokenness that he feels about himself. In fact, Paul desires a deliverer "from this body of death" (7:24). The internal struggle of sin is part of the reason why Paul (and we) can know that we need a deliverer.

But from this moment does Paul proclaim thanks to God. In particular, "through Jesus Christ our Lord" (7:25). Paul knows that Jesus can provide deliverance from said body of death. As discussed in Romans 3-6, Jesus provided the "great exchange" (involving the crucifixion and resurrection) to counter our sin problem. It's part of the reason why many consider Jesus as Savior.

Also discussed earlier in Romans 4 is how we received his gift by faith (also known as "believing in Jesus"). Believing in Jesus is essentially accepting that we need Lord Jesus (who is Son) to be victorious in countering sin on behalf of us and counting on Jesus to deliver us from, well, "this body of death". That's it for us. Jesus as Lord (and Son) prevails over death via the resurrection and Jesus as Savior delivers us from, well, "this body of death".

For the readers who decided to accept Jesus and count on him for saving you, you are guaranteed everlasting life. I don't have a "I raised my hand" button or "I accepted Jesus" button because faith starts internally. (You can raise your hand though.)
